RPI Blanked by Quinnipiac

HAMDEN, Conn. - The No. 10 Quinnipiac University women's hockey team kicked off the final weekend of the 2016-17 season by topping Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI), 5-0, on Friday night at High Point Solutions Arena in Hamden. The Bobcats improve to 19-8-6 (12-6-3 ECAC Hockey), while the Engineers fall to 10-21-2 (7-13-1 ECAC Hockey).

Senior goaltender Sydney Rossman recorded her 25th career shutout, making 15 total saves on the night. RPI Sophomore Lovisa Selander had a season-high 52.

The Bobcats grabbed the game's first goal just 3:37 into the first period. Taryn Baumgardt (Innisfail, Alberta) fired a slap shot toward net that was saved by Selander. Danielle Marmer (Dorset, Vermont) picked up the loose puck in front of the net and poked it off Selander's pad, then Samoskevich burried the rebound.

Quinnipiac then got on the board again with eight minutes left in the first period. Baumgardt fired a one-timer toward net off a feed from senior captain Emma Woods (Burford, Ontario), and Cianfarano collect the rebound on the right side of the ice and blasted a wrist shot into the net for her 13th goal of the year.

Turner grabbed her 10th goal of the year midway through the 2nd frame. Cianfarano won the face-off and played the puck back to Woods, who took a shot at net that was blocked by an RPI defender. Turner poked in the rebound for a 3-0 lead.

Quinnipiac added two more insurance tallies, including one in the third period by Randi Marcon.

RPI is back on the ice tomorrow afternoon, when it visits No. 9 Princeton (3pm), needing at least a tie or a Harvard tie or loss against Brown to make the ECAC Hockey playoffs.
