Brown Defeated at No. 3/3 Clarkson

POTSDAM, N.Y. - The Brown women's hockey team was defeated by No. 3/3 Clarkson, 8-1, on Saturday afternoon at Cheel Arena. A six-goal first period powered the Golden Knights, who added one goal in both the second and third. Freshman Sena Hanson (New Brighton, Minn.) put in a score for the Bears in the opening period.

After a Clarkson (17-3-4, 11-0-1 ECAC) goal at 1:58 from Cassidy Vinkle in the first period, Hanson scored her third goal of the season to tie the game, 1-1. The Golden Knights returned with five unanswered goals, which included a Vinkle hat trick, to claim a 6-1 lead going into the first intermission.

Clarkson was 2-for-2 in the opening frame on the power play while Brown (4-15-0, 2-10-0 ECAC) did not have an opportunity.

After a Golden Knight goal at 15:51 of the second by Genevieve Bannon, Brown had a 5-on-3 advantage after two calls on Clarkson, but the Golden Knights' penalty kill kept the Bears from scoring with three shots on net.

Cayley Mercer provided the lone goal in the third period on the power play at 17:13.

Clarkson finished the game 3-for-8 on the power-play while Brown was 0-for-6. The Bears held the edge in face-offs, winning 34 over the Golden Knights' 30.

Freshman Calla Isaac (Sherwood Park, Alberta) stopped a career-high 27 shots while junior Julianne Landry (Hanover, Mass.) opened the game with nine saves. Mackenzie Johnson tuned away 24 shots in net for Clarkson.

The Bears will next return home to Meehan Auditorium after six-consecutive away games and host Harvard on Friday, Jan. 20 and Dartmouth on Saturday, Jan. 21. Friday's game will start at 6:00 p.m. and Saturday's contest will begin at 3:00 p.m.
