Union Falls to Harvard

SCHENECTADY, NY - Despite a 36 save performance from first year Kate Spooner, the Union College women's hockey team fell at the hands of Harvard University Friday night at Messa Rink.

After a scoreless first period, the Crimson were able to break the scoreless tie just 1:55 into the second frame when Briana Mastel worked her way to the front and punched one past Spooner. Kate Hallett and Kyra Colbert assisted on the play.

The Crimson would take that 1-0 lead into the third period. Midway through the third at 11:07 mark, Harvard would add to its lead when Haley Mullins picked up a turnover along the left wing boards. She found Kaitlyn Tse who quickly got it back to Mullins. Mullins picked up her head and picked her spot beating Spooner over her right shoulder putting the Crimson up 2-0.

They would hold that 2-0 lead through the rest of the game as Union was unable to score despite pulling Spooner late on.

Harvard's Beth Larcom finished with a 12 save shutout victory.

Tomorrow, Union will honor its four senior players in forwards Alli DevinsEastyn Yuen and Emily Ericksonas well as defenseman Kathryn Davis. The four have suited up in the Union sweater 453 games combined over their four years on the Schenectady campus combining for 49 points.

The game against Dartmouth is scheduled for 3:00 p.m. tomorrow at Messa Rink. Following the game, the four Dutchwomen seniors will be honored at center ice as this will be their last game on home ice.
