No. 8 Quinnipiac Rolls to Victory vs. Dartmouth

HAMDEN, Conn. - No. 8/8 Quinnipiac women's ice hockey topped Dartmouth, 3-1, on Saturday evening at High Point Solutions Arena in Hamden. With the win, the Bobcats move to 15-5-4 (8-3-2 ECAC) on the season, while Dartmouth is now 2-12-0 (1-8-0 ECAC).
 
Sophomore Randi Marcon (Winnipeg, Manitoba), senior Taryn Baumgardt (Innisfail, Alberta) and sophomore Melissa Samoskevich (Sandy Hook, Connecticut) all scored in the win for the Bobcats.
 
Senior goalie Sydney Rossman (Excelsior, Minnesota) made 12 saves in the win. Rossman now owns a 13-5-3 record on the season. She's 47-8-3 in her four seasons with Quinnipiac.
 
Marcon scored the game's first goal with 7:13 left in the first period, wristing a shot into the back of the net from the middle of the ice to make it 1-0 Bobcats. The goal is Marcon's fourth of the season, and eighth of her collegiate career.
 
Danielle Marmer (Dorset, Vermont) collected the puck along the boards and sent it over to Marcon, earning her fourth assist of the season on the play.
 
Baumgardt made it 2-0 just before the end of the second period, rifling a shot into the back of the net 1:11 before the second intermission. Kenzie Prater (Hudson, Wisconsin) won the faceoff and played it back to Baumgardt, who did the rest to register her fourth goal of the season. Prater, the freshman, now has seven assists.
 
The Bobcats made it 3-0 with 14:16 left in the third. Samoskevich won a battle for the puck in front of the net, then blasted a wrist shot into the left side of the net for her eighth goal of the year.
 
Samoskevich now has 24 goals and 26 assists for her career (50 points).
 
Dartmouth got on the board 8:54 into the third, as Kennedy Ottenbreit blasted a one-timer off the post and into the goal to make it 3-1. Eleni Tebano and Alyssa Baker were each credited with an assist.
 
Quinnipiac outshot Dartmouth 43-13. The first shot on goal the Bobcats surrendered came with 10:20 left in the second period.
 
The Bobcats hit the road again next weekend, traveling to Colgate (Jan. 13, 6 p.m.) and Cornell (Jan. 14, 3 p.m.) for more ECAC Hockey action.
