The Abbotsford Heat announced the signing of veteran defenceman Joe Callahan, a former Yale standout, to a one-year AHL contract.
The 6'3", 220-pound blueliner spent last season with the Hamilton Bulldogs, posting 20 points (three goals, 17 assists) in 60 games.
The 29-year-old Brockton, Mass. native has played eight full professional seasons, encompassing 510 AHL games and 46 NHL contests with the New York Islanders, San Jose Sharks and Florida Panthers.
Callahan spent three years at Yale (2001-04), appearing in 94 collegiate contests. He compiled 11 goals and 33 assists, including a career-best 20 points (six goals, 14 assists) in 31 games during his junior campaign.
