Beaudoin Scores Twice in Tie with No. 16 Quinnipiac

Brent Beaudoin (Londonderry, N.H.) scored a pair of goals for the Brown men's hockey team as the Bears tied No. 16 Quinnipiac, 2-2, in Saturday's ECAC matchup at Meehan Auditorium.

Brown (6-16-1, 6-9-1) earned a three-point weekend and improved to 3-1-1 over its last five games. Quinnipiac moved to 17-9-2, 10-4-2.

"I thought it was a great weekend," said head coach Brendan Whittet. "We got three points at home. We've been very good the last three weekends in the league and that was a big point. They are an excellent hockey team. I thought we played the game the right way and played the game very hard."

Gavin Nieto (Yorba Linda, Calif.) stopped 29 shots for the Bears, while Keith Petruzzelli had 27 saves for Quinnipiac. Brown went 1-for-3 on the power play and 3-for-3 on the penalty kill.

Brown opened the scoring on the power play with 1:32 left in the first period. After Tony Stillwell (Green Bay, Wis.) took a shot from the point that was deflected by Bradley Cocca (Toronto, Ontario), Beaudoin was in the right spot in front of the crease, and quickly beat Petruzzelli to give the home side the lead after 20 minutes.

Beaudoin notched his second of the night late in the second period, as he once again scored on a rebound for his seventh goal of the season, and fifth in the last nine games. Zach Giuttari (Warwick, R.I.) and Tristan Crozier (Calgary, Alberta) earned assists on the play.

Quinnipiac answered back, however, when Ethan de Jong scored from behind the net as the puck trickled over the goal line with three seconds left in the period. Brown held a 14-7 shot advantage in the middle frame.

The Bobcats carried over their momentum into the next period as Alex Whelan scored 2:23 into the third to even the score. Nieto made 13 saves in the period to help send the game into overtime.

Brown's best chance in OT came during a 5-on-3 rush 46 seconds into the stanza, but Peter DiLiberatore blocked the final attempt. QU finished with a 3-2 edges in overtime shots.

Brown will head to Dartmouth and Harvard next weekend.
